Congressman Bernie Sanders - Civil Liberties
Congressman Bernie Sanders - Civil LibertiesREPUBLICAN LEADERSHIP HIJACKS U.S. HOUSE TO DEFEAT SANDERS’ PATRIOT ACT AMENDMENT"The amendment, facing threat of a Presidential veto, received a majority of votes in the U.S. House when the time for voting expired. However, the House Republican Leadership then held open the vote twice as long as scheduled, an additional 20 minutes, as they “persuaded” Republicans to switch their votes. As Democratic members chanted, “Shame, Shame, Shame,” Republican leaders closed the vote on a 210 to 210 tie."
The Texas Mafia strikes again.

AlterNet: War on Iraq: The Mother of All Anti-War Forces
I am planning on watching "Farenheit 9/11" this weekend which is why I have been so wacky political, well more so than usual lately. I am uber-pissed that there isn't a stormwall of offended Americans collapsing on the capital of this country in outrage at what has been going on the last 3 and a half years. I am enraged that there are still people who not only support the president but still think he is a moral and ethical leader. I followed a link (which I will not link to here because it's just too offensive) to the GOP website and their page on John Edwards. Now he is a politician just like any other and I'm sure his scuples are just as shakey as anyone elses in Washington. I in now way assume that John Kerry is a white knight riding in on his firey steed to save us all and bring us to glory. He is a politician too and I put them all about half a step above perniscious gout on the scale of global usefullness. But the GOP is just being HATEFUL in this campaign. They are being downright UGLY! Kerry/Edwards isn't. Moveon.org isn't either. And do you know why?
THEY DON'T HAVE TO BE!!!!!!! Everytime a republican or neo-con opens their mouths they make themselves look like elitist, genocidal horses asses. They don't have a leg to stand on and they know it so they are throwing juvenile hissy fits that would put my 3 year old drama queen daughter to shame. I added another blog to the links today and the writer talks about attending the
Kerry/Edwards rally in Dayton. The Bush/Cheney supporters were standing at the entrance as the attendees went in yelling and calling them "stupid" for supporting the "losing candidate".
Can we all come in from recess now and
GROW UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Obviously not, if this story is any indication:
AlterNet: War on Iraq: The Mother of All Anti-War Forces"There is a remarkable scene in "Fahrenheit 9/11" when Lila Lipscomb talks with an anti-war activist outside the White House about the death of her 26-year-old son in Iraq. A pro-war passerby doesn't like what she overhears and announces, "This is all staged!"
Ms. Lipscomb turns to the woman, her voice shaking with rage, and says: "My son is not a stage. He was killed in Karbala, Apr. 2. It is not a stage. My son is dead." Then she walks away and wails, "I need my son.""
I'm disgusted. I'm at that point I approach every once in a while when I get completely and totally fed up with the human race and want nothing more than for someone to just drop a "human-smart" bomb to get rid of the lot of us. GAD!!!!!!!!

Discrimination alert
Passing this along...
Call to action! Fifteen year old Rachel Sura, a Wiccan, is being forced to attend church services and has been denied access to religous material by Francis Townsdin of Hoisington Youth Home. The Kansas Courts have refused to get involved, stating that "the court cannot order Hoisington Youth Home to accomodate these requests. The court suggests that Rachel Sura request only one or two books at a time and only those dealing with her religion and suggests that she request private time to meditate." Jean Sura, mother, and Paula Hofaker, attorney at law, have appealed the decision of the Kansas court system. The Kansas chapter of the Pagan Unity Campaign and Pagans United, in a joint motion, would like to remind the Kansas Courts that Wicca is a federally recognized and protected religion and that it is the courts place to get involved when the child's religious freedoms are being impeded upon by the group home in question. We would also like to remind Kansas Child Protective Services that it is their duty to protect the rights of children to the fullest extent of the law. By allowing Francis Townsdin and Hoisington Youth Home to force Rachel Sura to attend church service, and to deny her access to religious materials, they have neglected their duty to the child, and to the state of Kansas.
Furthermore, we would like to offer our full support to Jean and Rachel Sura as they appeal the decision of the Courts. Both Kansas PUC and Pagans United will exhaust all possible resources available to us in our fight for Rachel Sura.
"The right to worship God according to the dictates of conscience shall never be infringed; nor shall any person be compelled to attend or support any form of worship; nor shall any control of or interference with the rights of conscience be permitted, nor any preference be given by law to any religious establishment or mode of worship. No religious test or property qualification shall be required for any office of public
trust, nor for any vote at any elections, nor shall any person be incompetent to testify on account of religious belief."
Kansas Bill of Rights,
Article 7 "To be a bona fide religious belief entitled to protection under either the First Amendment or Title VII, a belief must be sincerely held, and within the believer's own scheme of things religious."
USCA Const. Amend 1: Civil Rights Act 1964 701 et
seq., 717 as amended 42 USCA 2000-16 "Wicca is a Federally recognized religion. Even the military recognizes this and provides space on military installations and ships for Wiccans to practice their religion. The people involved in this case are clearly in the wrong and need to review the law and the U.S. Constitution before they make any further decisions in this case."
Laura Wandrie, Pagans United President, June 2004 "There were no stipulation placed in the Constitution about "once you are old enough" or "as long as you believe such", the right to freedom of religion should apply to all
ages and all faiths. Rachel Sura has been let down by the very state, agencies, and court system which are supposed to be in place to protect her. Those involved should rethink their positions and place themselves back in accordance with the laws they are supposed
to uphold."
Angie Mae, Kansas Pagan Unity Campaign State Chair, June 2004 The Kansas chapter of the Pagan Unity Campaign and Pagans United would like to encourage Pagan citizens to get involved by writing to both the courts and CPS to remind them of their responsibility to protect the rights of Rachel Sura by putting a stop to Hoisington Youth Home violation's of her basic rights. We ask you to support and defend the rights of Jean and Rachel Sura's claim with any and all legal means available to you. You can contact

Fundies bad
WECT TV6 & WECT.com - Wilmington, NC- 'Ridiculous' law gaining national attention"It all started when Hobbs began working at the Pender County 911 dispatch office in February.
In late May she was called into her supervisor's office and told if she didn't marry her boyfriend or stop living with him, she would be fired. It's called cohabitation, which is illegal in North Carolina, thought is a law that is rarely enforced.
Pender County Sheriff Carson Smith was behind the ultimatum. He believes cohabitation is morally wrong. "
Need I say more? Another fascist fundie flexing his "I know what's right so I'm going to tell you how to live" muscles at the expense of someone's civil liberties. I believe forcing your beliefs on someone else is morally wrong, but I can't fire
his ass cause I don't have the power.
