I've been getting lots of calls and emails from Democrats asking for money. "We
really need to get Bush and his cronies out of office!!! WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!
*sigh* Yes, I know. Trust me, if I thought it would help, I would rent a UHaul and drive down to DC and move them all out myself. But I don't have any spare money to give them. I'm a month late on my mortgage. I'm going in for surgery on Monday.
And the sad thing is that the Republicans know this. They count on it.
Which brings me around to one of the many problems with politics in America.
*IN GENERAL* Republicans are the party of the rich. They court the rich and draw the rich because they help the rich keep their money. Their entire focus is business and wealth.
*IN GENERAL* Democrats are the party of the poor. They court the poor and draw the poor because they try to get some for the rest of us. Their focus is people and their lives.
So from a purely economic standpoint, Democrats just don't have a chance.
Republicans are so focused on saving rich people money by saying lets tax the "middle class" (read poor) because there are more of them and we'll get more money that way, what they are doing is leaving the rich with more expendable income and the "middle class" (read poor) with less.
I make approximately $21,000 a year. George Bush made approximately $700,000 last year.
15% of $21,000 is $3,150 leaving me with $17,850 to live on for the year.
15% of $700,000 is $105,000 leaving him with $595,000 to live on for the year.
33% of $700,000 is $231,000 leaving him with $469,000 to live on for the year.So the rich have more money to donate to the Republicans so they can help them keep more money to spend on gold plated yahts. And the poor have no money to donate to the Democrats to help them get more money to live on.
And if you look at it from a non-political economic standpoint, think about this. The rich folks
don't go down to the A&P to buy their groceries. Or down to Billy Bob's Ford to buy their cars. They buy their Hummers and H2's at Snooty Fruity Motors and get their Quail Glace at La FooFooarie. So by letting them keep their money to spend to boost the economy, the are actually only boosting a minority of the economy at best. And by giving the poor less expendable income, we
can't go down to the A&P and buy groceries or to Billy Bob's Ford to buy a car.
So, as you can see, the Republicans really have no incentive to change the system and the Democrats have no chance to change the system.
So we need something else to change the system. I dream of a day of a 3 party system. Or more. This two party deal is killing us. And I dream of a day when NO money can be spent on political campaigns. Or there is a rule that no one can spend more than anyone else. So if the Independent from Kalamazoo can only spend $5,000 on his campaign then the Republican from Texas can only spend $5,000.
Hmmmmm.....I
really like that idea.....

Thanks for pointing me to this
JoelWired News: Congress Expands FBI Spying PowerThey passed the biggest chunk of Patriot II by sneaking it into an Intelligence Finance bill.
"Intelligence spending bills are considered sensitive, so they are usually drafted in secret and approved without debate or public comment.
Chris Schroeder, a Duke law professor and former assistant attorney general in the office of legal counsel at the Justice Department, said the re-insertion shows that "people who want to expand the powers of the FBI didn't want to stop after Patriot II was leaked."
"They are going to insert these provisions on a stealth basis," Schroeder said. "It's insidious." "Those sneaky, cowardly bastards! They knew they couldn't pass it on it's own cause it's an unconstitutional, Big Brother, Soviet Union-esque piece of crap! So the belly crawlers bury it somewhere no on would think to look for it and where no one would notice until it was too late and
passed it!Pravda, comrades!
