I'm back. Don't ask it's just too stupidly frustrating to even go into. You can check out the car fire saga on my personal blog.

So back to my usual publicly-minded posts. Here is a notification of a religious cult that has been practicing in this country for 60 odd years. They are so insidious I had never even heard of them until I got a notification on a UU Webmasters mail list I belong to. Beware, people.

http://www.younglife.org

This is about A VERY ACTIVE group that 'works' in schools...and offers trips to Ocean City...dances...parties, etc. MANY of the parents whose kids participate in these activities DO NOT KNOW that this is a group of RADICAL religious people, lead by deceitful adults who TRAIN young people to proselytize to other kids. Some of the kids who submit to this don't tell their parents what's happening because they want to go to the social events. Other kids find themselves locked into rooms at Ocean City (or wherever), not allowed to use the phones, etc, while different 'shifts' of youth PREACH to them.

Read their "Questions" page: Isn't that a problem with separation of church and state? "There are two ways that Young Life leaders can find their way into a school. One way is that they are invited by the administration because principals and superintendents are aware of the positive impact Young Life can have on high school kids. The other way is that
leaders approach the administration and ask for permission to be on the campus."

Also, you can go to the "Where is Young Life" page to see if it is near you - search by state.

This Colorado Springs-based organization is in bed with the Washington, DC-based Institute for Youth Development, the president of which spoke before congress and has successfully lobbied the White House to extend funding of faith-based
organizations. Here's a link to their newsletter that describes their congressional testimony (among other things):

http://www.youthdevelopment.org/newsviews.asp

President and Founder of IYD is Shepherd Smith. The IYD site states:

"Mr. Smith was recently appointed by Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary, Tommy G. Thompson, to serve on the Advisory Committee to the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The committee advises the CDC on policy issues and broad strategies for promoting health and quality of life by preventing and controlling disease,
injury and disability."

The Christian Coalition spawned the Institute of Justice and other seemingly innocuous organizations. Almost single-handedly, they have pushed school vouchers through in local areas, making it seem like a "grass roots" effort on the part of citizens, so the citizens do join them and then push it along themselves. It has been a carefully orchestrated effort that began in the 1980s and just now has finally gained enough momentum in congress to potentially pass the U.S. Senate vote, their final barrier (the Pres is a pushover).

Robertson and Reid agreed at one point to remove Reid because he had become too well known for the Coalition's purposes, and they wanted less media focus. They purposely use unknowns as leaders of their "affiliated" organizations, and the funding is by the Christian Coalition to the other groups or, the Christian Coalition encourages rich, powerful private citizens who are sympathetic to its views to donate funds.
