I would like to thank my new blogging buddy Laura for posting this. I am borrowing it to share with y'all cause it is SO COOL!!

"Clinton got a hummer and lied about it, in which case the House called for his impeachment.

Bush and his administration have gone far beyond that in wrecking havoc with lies, causing major damage while putting thousands of lives upon the butcher block, breaking international laws and yet he is still in office WTF?

Lie 1: President Bush and Secretary Powell repeatedly claimed they had evidence that Iraq attempted to buy 500 tons of uranium oxide from Niger.

As early as March 2002, the CIA repeatedly told the White House that this claim was dubious and then the IAEA quickly determined that the documents were obvious forgeries.

Lie 2: The Bush administration claims that the existence of the forgery was not revealed to the White House or senior administration officals.

Vice President Cheney requested that Joseph Wilson, a senior US ambassador investigate this claim and in February 2002 he reported that the documents were forgeries to the State Department and the CIA – which was then forwarded to the Vice President’s office and the National Security Council.

Lie 3: In September 2002, Bush claimed an International Atomic Energy Agency report stated that Iraq was “six months away from developing a [nuclear] weapon.”

No such report exists by the IAEA.

Lie 4: In October 2002, Bush claimed “Iraq possesses ballistic missiles with a likely range of hundreds of miles – far enough to strike Saudi Arabia, Israel, Turkey and other nations”.

The missiles in question can travel less than 200 miles and could not reach any of the targets cited by Bush and the director of the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence & Research stated that “Iraq posed no imminent threat to either its neighbors or to the United States.”

Lie 5: “Saddam Hussein aids and protects terrorists, including members of Al Qaeda”

The CIA, FBI and British intelligence have found no link between Al Qaeda and Iraq.

Lie 6: "Iraqi intelligence met with 9-11 hijacker Mohammed Atta in Prague prior to the attacks."

US and Czech officials confirm that there is no evidence of such a meeting.  In fact, the evidence places Atta in the US on that day.

Lie 7: In 2000 and 2001 Bush promised that Social Security Funds would remain in a lockbox and that “we can proceed with tax relief without fear of budget deficits even if the economy softens”

Due to Bush’s $1.35 trillion giveaway, a $236 billion budget surplus has been wasted and we face a projected record deficit of $307 billion in 2004.  Bush’s 2004 budget will increase the national debt by $2-3 trillion and require that the government use the entire Social Security surplus to fund its deficits.

Lie 8: Bush pledged to increase SEC enforcement in signing the Sarbanes-Oxley corporate reform legislation.

Bush’s FY2003 budget cuts SEC enforcement by $209 million.

Lie 9: Bush claimed to have cooperated with an SEC investigation of his Harken transactions.

Bush quashed evidence that Harken’s lawyers advised Bush and other executives against selling their stock and only provided it to the SEC after it had ended its investigation. Guess it's okay for Martha to get caught but not Dubya.

Lie 10: Bush appeared at a South Dakotan ethanol plant and pledged that he supported ethanol “because not only do I know it’s important for the ag sector of our economy, it’s an important part of making sure we become less reliant on foreign sources of energy.”

Bush’s FY2004 budget eliminates funding for the bioenergy program at the South Dakota Plant..

And that's just a few of the lies that have been told to the American public, not to mention the laws that have already been changed since the start of his administration."

A little different perspective. In view of IDEA and the struggle we are facing with it right now I wanted to share something. This was compiled by and for students with disabilities:

We have the same needs and desires as all other students—We want to do our best, be respected and supported to feel good about ourselves and be successful in high school and beyond.

When asked, “What is the Number 1 thing you want your teachers to know about you,” teens replied:

  • I have dreams and hopes for my future
  • I am willing to learn!
  • I am smart!
  • I am a good person!
  • I will listen to what you have to say and would like you to listen to me

We want…

  • Help when we ask for it.
  • Teachers with open minds about our abilities
  • Respect
  • More chances to get involved in activities of our choice in school
  • School to be a more positive and accepting environment for students with disabilities

We want opportunities for…

  • More choices about what classes we take
  • To be included in regular classes and activities
  • Speaking up and being heard
  • Real life experiences

We worry about…

  • Peer pressure
  • Not doing will with our schoolwork
  • Not being involved or fitting in at school
  • Not being able to express ourselves fully
  • Graduating from high school without the knowledge and skills to succeed in higher education or in the workforce
  • What the future holds

According to the 1998 Harris Poll of Americans with Disabilities…

  • 1 out of 5 adults with disabilities aged 18 and over has not graduated from high school, compared to only 1 out of 10 adults with no disabilities
  • Fully 1/3 (34%) of adults with disabilities lived in a household with an annual income of less than $15,000 in 1997, compared to only 12% of adults without disabilities.

We need our teachers to…

  • Listen to us, first of all
  • Help us become more involved in planning meetings
  • Help us to plan early for our lives after school by making sure we take the right classes
  • Help us figure out what accommodations we need so we can do our best work.

We need our teachers to…

  • Respect and have faith in the choices we make
  • Challenge us so we can raise our goals and theirs too!
  • Not give up on us so we won’t give up on ourselves!

Why is this so unreasonable to conservatives?

Today I will be quoting heavily from the Physicians for Social Responsibility as they say much of what I believe much more coherently than I ever could.

They are speaking on Military-style Assault Rifles. AKA "how many bullest can I possibly fire in one second" guns. First off...If you need that many rounds to hit the target...maybe target shooting isn't for you!!!!!!! Secondly...If you fire that many rounds into a deer, you will be picking more metal than meat out of your teeth!!! Now I live in Maine and I was raised by a hunter in Illinois. I know that there are some folks who still rely on hunting for their food supply and that's fine. The Circle of Life includes the food chain. I'm not a vegitarian, I eat meat. But my dad used to hunt everything from squirrels and ducks to deer with a .22 and he did just fine. He had 2 rifles and one shotgun hanging on the gunrack in his room. And we always had plenty of fresh meat. CAVEMEN used to kill MASTADONS with POINTED STICKS!!!!! There is ABSOLUTELY NO JUSTIFICATION FOR AUTOMATIC WEAPONS!!!!!!!! Let alone military-style assault rifles. It's just stupidity to argue otherwise. (My blog, my perogative. ;oD)

Our president (and I use the term loosely) is allowing his stooges in the congress (also used loosely) to end the existing ban on these types of weapons. "In fact, the Bush Administration seems content to sit quietly on the sidelines while Republican leaders in Congress block legislation that would extend the assault weapons ban beyond its 'sunset' date of September 13, 2004."

Now there isn't much doubt that I think GW is mentally ill at best and malignent at worst. In view of recent events, this being one and the "Throwing George Tenent to the wolves" episode this week, I flat out call this man a coward!!!!! A craven little coward!!!! Letting his flunkies take the falls and do his dirty work for him while he sits back and spouts Bushisms at the rest of the world trying to keep his "Good Ol' Boy" image afloat. To quote the PSR "From his belligerent foreign policy, reckless pursuit of and eagerness to use nuclear weapons, and repeated attacks on the environment..." I feel this man is the single most dangerous human (used loosely) on the planet!!! Public enemy #1!!!

And right behind him is the NRA!!! Before GW was elected the Vice President of the NRA said they would be working right out of the White House and that does indeed seem to be the case. "The National Rifle Association, Gun Owners of America, and a shadowy group known as the 'National Shooting Sports Foundation' are working to keep legislation to extend the assault weapons ban bottled up in Congress. And they are getting plenty of help from House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, a long-time ally of the NRA and avowed opponent of all gun safety laws.

With blatant disregard for public opinion and your safety, DeLay is doing more than living up to his name. He isn't delaying a vote on this critical legislation - he is outright refusing to let the bill even come up for debate in the House of Representatives, let alone be voted upon"

Am I the only one who thinks this is just INSANITY!?!?!?! I challenge GW, our great Praying President, to take a good look at the 6th commandment and explain why we need guns.

This has been rolling around in my brain since the nail-biting days of the 2000 election and the more I think about it the more convinced I am that this whole 2-party, 3-branch checks and balances system is a WICKED bad idea.

There are 2 major political parties, Democrats and Republicans. Now there are those who say that they are actually just one big party and I find it hard to argue with that statement, truth be told. Politicians in general are a slimey, selfish, self-riteous lot party be damned. I tend to vote for democrats more than republicans because their agendas, on the surface anyway, appeal more readily to my value system. But I don't belong to the party and I have voted Green, Libertarian or independent on occasion.

Then you have the 3 major branches of the government; Executive, Legislative and Judicial. President, Congress and Court system. The point of the 3 branches is, as told to me by Mr. McCausland in my American History class, is so that there is a checks and balances system. No one branch can hold all the power. BUT...the wrench in the works is the 2 party system. Because, at any one time 2 of the three are going to be held by one party or the other. And if GW has his way, he will have all 3 branches in his evil clutches by the end of the year. This situation renders the checks and balances system moot. The only thing that has held the government in any illusion of check is what small amount of press coverage has been allowed and any resulting public opinion, and the fact that the minority party generally puts up a hell of a fight in their period of minority.

Witness the Dems and their Fillibuster Fiesta in this session.

I think it would be great if we could eventually get a multiparty system going. Personally I like the Green Party. I got kind of hopefull when Ross Perot started his party because it may have opened up a door. Then Nader came along and I toyed with the idea of getting on that bandwagon but I realized quickly that the time wasn't right. It's not going to happen overnight and if it hadn't been GW in that election I may have done the Nader thing. But, for now obvious reasons, he just scared me way too much to take a chance. And when the '04 elections come around, I will be voting Democrat again just to get that asshole out of office before he kills us all and bleeds the earth mother dry.

Thomas Jefferson said that he would be dissapointed with the United States if there wasn't a revolution every 20 years or so. I agree, but wise strategy dictates that we pick our battles, time and place. The system need a serious overhaul and it's time to stop worrying about whether the alternative might be worse. Look at the situation we're in now, I don't know how it can get much worse than this.

*sigh* hmmm... I think tomorrow I will rant about the NRA again. Everybody's got to have a hobby. :oD

I was thinking as I sit here watching them haul off the chopped up bits of the once proud and noble willow tree in front of our office building so they can put in another parking lot. It should be illegal to chop down willow trees. They are sacred to the goddess and we should make a law that anyone chopping down a willow tree will be summarily sent to jail.

But, then I realized that I can no more force my beliefs on others than I want others to force their beliefs on me. So where does that leave us all? The anti-abortionists think we should make it illegal for a woman to have a certain kind of elective surgery. The gun lobby thinks it should be illegal for anyone to curb their ability to buy and store large arsenals in their homes. I think it should be illegal to cut down willow trees. So what do we do? Make everything illegal? Just sit on our hands in our homes and do nothing all day? I think it should be legal for a woman to do whatever she wants to with her own body. I think every gun from rocket launchers to water pistols should be melted down for scrap. And some people think that a willow is just very large plant. A chair in waiting.

I truly envy people who know they are 100% right about 100% of everything 100% of the time. It certainly makes the world a much easier place. I know what I think is right and I am very firm in my beliefs. And I find it very difficult to understand those who don't think like I do on some things. And I am never shy about explaining to someone why I think they are wrong. But where should the line be drawn? When should it move from "Yeah, but this is the right way and I just need to convice you of it" to "I'm right, you're wrong and I'm gonna make a law cause I can".

Well, I'm young yet. I suppose I have time to ponder this one. Stay tuned. I have a rant perculating about the governmental checks and balances system.
